Entry for January 5, 2008

The count down is on for the SDSU Writer’s Conference and our nerves are jangling.  We have done so much research on each of the agents and editors that I just want to go back to bed and stay there until January 25th.  We have rewritten our query letters, bio’s, non-fiction proposal, beginning chapters have been scoured with a toothbrush, created our own ideas for book covers, built a web site and a blog.  Our working titles are encompassing of the story and we have one sentence pitch lines ready to be spit out on cue.   Our next step is to have packages put together for each of the three titles we are pitching, ready to pull out of our magical bag upon request.

My fear: brain freeze.  Brain freeze is the brain piercing pain that consumes your head after slurping a chocolate milk shake you rewarded yourself with for completing that last rewrite.  Seconds after the divine pleasure of the ice cream sliding down your throat hits the roof of your mouth in full force, all thoughts flee your mind and you are left panting in agony no longer capable of an intelligent word.  Yes an editor or agent is going to ask me about one of our projects and I will be left sitting there my mouth hanging open, my brain spinning and not a word to say.  Right up there with dreams of showing up naked in school!

My goal for the day is deep breathing exercises!

The mail came and went yesterday and no responses on the queries we have out.  The phone did ring Wednesday and New York came up on caller ID but they hung up before I could answer.  That left us wondering who called.  We did a reverse search on the internet, but it was not listed other than New York zone 1 what ever that means. Of course our imaginations went on overload.  But as we both know if the call is important who ever would call back or leave a message, yet there are times you can’t help but wonder and dream.

I better get back to work; I think we added ten more items to the list of things we need to accomplish today.

Thank you everyone for your support, encouragement, love and friendship.
